Like all Prodrive composites, the Hummingbird is manufactured to ISO/TS 16949 standards, a certification reserved for high-precision components that have successfully passed the ISO quality assurance tests. We are proud to bring the highest standards, engineering and materials available to the bike industry with passion, craftsmanship and a drive for perfection. Carbon fibre

We bring the standards set by Prodrive, as a key supplier in professional motor sport, to the cycling industry. The result: development and manufacturing to Formula 1 standards. Manufacturing its bikes alongside race cars, Hummingbird uses the latest carbon fibre technologies, all built in Britain. Our carbon fibres are synthetic polymers that are heated to high temperatures until they carbonize.

The result is a black, extremely light and firm fibre with a tensile strength four times higher than the best steel alloys – at just a quarter of the weight. Carbon fibre doesn’t just save weight, it can also be beautiful – proven by our immaculately laid Carbon Edition frame. The unique pattern and glossy finish create a first class experience for the ultimate urban cyclist.

High performance wheels

The lower rolling resistance of high pressure slick tyres and the lower drag of high quality sealed bearings allow Hummingbirds to go faster with less effort. Small wheels allow for a lower moment of inertia, meaning faster acceleration and more responsive steering. Stronger than large bicycle wheels, Hummingbird’s smaller wheels also reduce the overall length of the bike, making it compact and easier to transport.

Frameset design

The Hummingbird frame is a perfect synergy of form and function, aesthetics and technology, designed to be both robust and comfortable to ride. Hummingbird uses finite element analysis, a software engineering simulation tool, to tell us exactly how different structure designs will respond to different riders and riding surfaces. Through dozens of simulations we were able to bring innovation to our bicycle.

Hummingbird’s monocoque frame construction combined with the unique folding mechanism give it extra strength and provides a superior ride.

In the final folding step the handlebar brings all the components together clipping into a secure package with the help of the Hummlock. This feature makes Hummingbird very easy to carry when folded and ensures all components lock together.

Swingarm design

During the design phases, we ran thousands of computer simulations to optimise the shape and function of our swingarm. After dozens of iterations, we have now found the perfect design, which offers the ultimate in performance and the lowest weight. The swingarm takes over 24 hours to produce but the result is a beautiful product. Each swingarm is machined from a solid billet of aluminium and is black anodized to ensure a long lasting finish.

Swinglock, Hummingbird’s pivotal folding system

Hummingbird’s folding mechanism allows you to fold your bike in less than five seconds. To fold, the rear triangle pivots around the bottom bracket, so the chain tension never changes. Not only does this prevent the chain from falling off but it also removes the need for a chain tensioner.

Hummingbird is easier to use and maintain. Locating the pivot around the bottom bracket takes advantage of the stiffness in the area and it is one of the reasons behind Hummingbird’s weight advantage. The Swinglock transfers forces on the bike seamlessly through the frame, ensuring a secure and comfortable ride.
